Chandler TG2 EMI Abbeyroad-Style Stereo Mic Pre
The Chandler Limited TG2 is a recreation of the rare EMI TG12428 pre amp used in EMI/Abbey Road recording and mastering consoles used in the late 60's and early 70's. The sound was used on many famous recordings done at Abbey Road including The Beatles "Abbey Road" and Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon." The amplifiers were also used in many EMI circuits of the time. Our version was remade from original design notes and circuit board drawings, provided by Abbey Road and EMI to ensure extreme authenticty!

This pre features the same discrete transformer balanced amplifiers as the TG series limiter and offers a creamy, smooth tone with a surprisingly open, clear top end (dare we say nicer than Neve....) The sound, as explained by many users, has the Neve "warmth" and punch, but with a "nicer" expanded top end. In fact the unit does have a small rise in its top end frequency response and some warmth inducing distortion which contribute to its sound.

Options: Stepped Output (Stereo)

"Thanks for the support and for such a great pre/DI (TG2). My other pres have been feeling distinctly 'un-loved' since this baby arrived! After spending a week with the TG2, I now understand what all the talk has been about. The TG2 delivers the sound I have been searching for - a 'creamy' sounding mid to high frequency emphasis with punch. - Anthony Lim

"I found the preamp's sound quality somewhere between an API 512 mic preamp and Neve's 1272 amplifier as used in the 1073 and 1084 modules. You'll find a whole new sonic world here: higher dynamic range than the Neve combined with API's "harder, punchier" sound character. Doesn't disappoint with a wide open sound" - Barry Rudolph, "Mix Magazine" Feb '03

"Just a quick (belated) note to say thank you for the TG2 - wow! Spectacular sounding pre. I ran our bass player direct using the TG2 and the sound was amazing - crystal clear with full, deep low freq response. I'll be cutting vocal tracks with Barry tomorrow; I'm looking forward to hearing your pre with his U47." - John Merchant, Engineer- Bee Gees
Chandler LTD-1 Neve 1073 Style Mic Pre/EQ
The Chandler Limited LTD-1 is a hand wired 10-series equalizer and pre amp that has been handmade using parts and build techniques from the original manufacture of the modules. Grounding, wiring techniques, original transformers, transistors, inductors, and much more attribute to the special sound of these units and have been painstakingly recreated in each LTD-1.

In addition to the classic 10-series sound we add all the modern functions you expect and expand the EQ section giving you much larger palate to choose from. Features include high impedance direct in, 48v switching, output fader, eq in/out, phase reverse, balanced mic in, balanced line in, over built power supply to ensure maximum headroom, and nine additional eq points.

"In the LTD-1, Chandler Limited has gone out of their way to combine the tone of the best 10-series modules with the extra EQ points and functionality I need. One listen and I was hooked... " - John Paterno, engineer, Badly Drawn Boy, Joan Osborne, Los Lobos

"I have been using the LTD-1's since Chandler's start and I have never wanted to be without them since. These modules just seem to get better and more useful as time goes by. I have made them my first choice for recording kick drum because of the selection of frequency's and punchy clarity. They also have have become my first choice mic pre for my lead vocal chain. Great job Wade!" - Ross Hogarth, Grammy winning producer/engineer for Keb' Mo, Ziggy Marley, Coal Chamber

"The sound of rock..and more frequencies. Fat, round, warm..just the way I like my eq's!" - Joe Barresi, engineer, Hole, Weezer
Chandler Limited TG Channel MKII
The Chandler Limited TG Channel is a recreation of several classic circuits and combines a TG2 pre amp section with an equalizer that was redesigned from an equalization circuit used in the TG12410 Transfer or mastering console. The mastering counterpart to the original "Beatles desks". Our version has been remade using original design information and circuit board drawings as provided by Abbey Road to ensure extreme authenticity! We've even remolded the old TG style pointer knobs.

The active portions of the unit use the same discrete amplifiers and transformers as in the TG1 Limiter and TG2 pre amp. The passive equalizer portion of the EQ is an all inductor design and offers sweet high frequencies with large inductor based lows, and a very high "Q" mid cut section. Designed to sound like a fine musical instrument instead of a modern surgical tool, it's sound is very comparable to Pultec and Lang program eqs but made from TG circuits. A simple description would be a TG Pultec with a TG pre amp thrown in...

"I didn't think I'd need another EQ in my arsenal until I heard the Channel. I was secretly hoping I wouldn't like it because I don't have room but this Eq is so damn organic, so fat. I got a great snare sound that none of my other Eq's could touch, bummer, it got the "wow that's the s**t" factor! I found the room by replacing two eq's in my rack for two of chandler's Channel." -Michael Brauer

"The best piece of new gear made!" -Michael Wagener (Producer: Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Motley Crue)

"Again Chandler has done it and blown me away. These !!!###$$$$ mic pre's rule. There is not a sound that goes in that does not come out sweeter, richer, creamier than before. On the new Channel, the eq section is so sweet, you find yourself looking for ways to eq,when in the past you steered away from eq. Very cool. I am not one to mince words, so believe me when I say it, these !!##$$ 'ing boxes are the shit." - Ross Hogarth

"The pre is huge, and the EQ compliments it with the ability to extend the top and the bottom without getting harsh. The mid cut is great on those kick drum and bass areas that always need some attention, while not sacrificing the size of the track. And it's fun to use !! A big and smooth sounding EQ to compliment a big sounding mic pre. A great combination!" - John Paterno
Chandler Mini TG Rack Mixer
The Chandler Limited Mini TG Rack Mixer traces its lineage back to the TG12345 MKIV recording console, most famous for it's use on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of The Moon", and is built with the TG MKIV line amp which was the heart and soul of much of the TG equipment, including the TG1, TG2, and TG Channel. This unit has been designed using original circuit drawings and design information provided by Abbey Road and EMI to ensure extreme accuracy.

Each Channel of the 16x2 Mixer is transformer balanced and driven by the TG MKVI amp, which is essentially a TG2 module without the extra gain. The buss and control room sections are driven by a pair of TG2 modules for each, totaling 20 discrete TG amplifiers in the unit, and delivering all the punch and tone you need for todays digital environment.
Chanlder Limited Germanium 500 Series Pre
The Germanium 500 is a 500-series compatible Germanium preamp. No circuit or transformer changes were necessary to adapt Chandler Limited designer Wade Goeke's original Germanium Preamp/DI into this version. Just like the original Germanium Preamp/DI, the Germanium 500 Preamp/DI uses classic germanium transistors in all class A, transformer balanced, circuits. The use of germanium devices opens a whole new sound palate not found in any pro audio equipment currently manufactured.

These incredibly smooth sounding transistors were the basis of the earliest transistor designs by Neve (1053, 1055, 1057), EMI (TG12345 MKI), Telefunken, and Fairchild. Those familiar with these units can attest to the special sound of the germanium transistor. The GERMANIUM series runs on high power, high current, and has a huge output before clipping. The sound is warm and smooth as with many vintage style circuits, but you'll find a whole new world of smooth here as well as a sound that settles in perfectly to your tracks without fighting. Add these new circuits to Chandler's new transformer line that combines the best parts of our favorite trannies, St. Ives and Gardners, into new great sounding input and output transformers.

Germanium 500 Preamp/DI is compatible with third-party racks, but for lowest noise and best possible performance, we recommend using the Chandler PSU-500 to replace the external power supply issued with your third-party rack. We do not recommend internal power supplies.
Chandler Limited Germanium Mic Pre
Chandler's newest series of units starts off with the GERMANIUM pre amp. A completely new design by Chandler Limited designer Wade Goeke that uses classic germanium transistors in all class A, transformer balanced, circuits. The use of germanium devices opens a whole new sound palate not found in any pro audio equipment currently manufactured.

These incredibly smooth sounding transistors were the basis of the earliest transistor designs by Neve (1053, 1055, 1057), EMI ( TG12345 MKI), Telefunken, and Fairchild. Those familiar with these units can attest to the special sound of the germanium tranasistor. The GERMANIUM series runs on +40 volt power, high current, and has a huge +34 output before clipping. The sound is warm and smooth as with many vintage style circuits, but you'll find a whole new world of smooth here as well as a sound that settles in perfectly to your tracks without fighting. Add these new circuits to Chandler's new transformer line that combines the best parts of our favorite trannies, St Ives and Gardners, into new great sounding input and output transformers.
Chandler PSU-1 (TG, LTD, Germanium series)
Runs up to 2 Chandler Limited units.
Chandler Limited TG1 EMI Stereo Compressor
This classic limiter/compressor was featured on custom EMI/Abbey Road recording and mastering consoles. These rare units were used on late Beatle recordings and Pink Floyd albums including Abbey Road and dark side of the moon. Our company has seen only about ten of these units in existence-two of which were used to recreate our version.

This limiter/compressor features an all class a discrete circuit with transformer balanced in and out. The sound, often compared to the fairchild 670 set to destruction, is very audible and "squishy" sounding while maintaining its clarity and high frequency response.

Controls include- output/gain makeup hold (not actually a threshold but something similar-try one and see) recovery-fairchild style where attack and release are both affected.
Chandler Limited LTD-2 Compressor
The LTD-2 is based on the 2254 compressor which is the class A predecessor to the 2264 and 33609. Ours uses the same audio circuit with a modified set of controls (i.e. attack times not on original and more and faster release times). The front panel controls are as follows- 20db gain make up, threshold, attack (6 positions), release (6 positions including auto), stereo link, and bypass. Construction is the same as the LTD-1.
Chandler Limited LTD-2 Compressor (Mastering Pair)
The Chandler Limited LTD-2 is a hand-wired 2254/2264/33609 that has been handmade using parts and build techniques from the original manufacture of the modules. Grounding, wiring techniques, original transformers, transistors, and much more attribute to the special sound of these units and have been painstakingly recreated in each LTD-2.

The LTD-2 uses the control circuit from the family of compressors, but retains the Class A amps and transformers from the the 2254 modules. We add a six position attack switch which none of the vintage types had, and speed up the release times, which makes the units much more versitile. Warm and creamy and valuable in many situations! LTD-2 Custom mastering/mixing pairs available as provided to Sterling Sound. Features include even faster release times, 1db stepped gain make, and specially matched for stereo.

- Joe Barresi

All LTD units require and function on the PSU-1, Chandler Limited power supply.
Chandler Limited TG12413 Limiter (VST/LE/AU)
The EMI TG12413 Limiter Plug In continues the tradition of EMI Limiters started in 1954 with the RS114 tube limiter, and continued with the RS168 Zener Limiter in 1968, part of the TG12345 console channel in 1969 and TG12413 Mastering desk version in 1972.

Two versions are included in the TG Limiter Pack. The 1969 version is the historically accurate version from the TG12410 Transfer, or mastering desks, which has the original HOLD control. The 2005 is closer to the Chandler TG1 hardeware reissue which changed the HOLD control for a standard INPUT control and also has 12db higher input to the compressor. In use the 1969 version may be better at more subtle limiting while the 2005 with its extra gain hits much harder and closely resembles the sound of the TG12345 console version of the Limiter. For more information on the history of these units please go to the TG12413 Zener Limiter and TG1 Limiter pages on this site.

The TG12413 Limiter Pack is now available in for Pro Tools HD, LE, VST, AU, and M-Powered systems. Please contact Abbey Road for support, a demo, or to purchase:

User Quotes-
"This new TG 12413 Plug-In underlines Abbey Road's commitment to both the importance of our heritage and the highest standards of technical development. It also means that a small part of Abbey Road can be invested into any studio anywhere in the world." - Peter Cobbin (Senior Recording Engineer, Abbey Road Studios)

"This is one fantastic plug-in, the only plug-in that I've encountered that can actually do that super squashed room sound. It's my go-to lead vocal compressor on practically every song. If your goal is that squashed, in-your-face Beatles quality sound, nothing can touch the TG12413." - Russ Long, (Pro Audio Review)

"It's raison d'etre is to add character to your tracks, and boy does it do that. I can't ever recall testing a plug-in compressor that can match the TG12413 for sheer punchiness, you may well experience moments when it really does seem to bring a little slice of Abbey Road into your life." - Sam Inglis, (Sound on Sound)

"The TG12413 plug-ins are simply stunning. With little effort it just makes everything sound, well, better - and with only four controls!" - Mark Wherry, (Sound on Sound)

"I am super impressed with the Chandler/EMI plug-in. I've been raving to friends. It's become one of my main go-to compressor/limiters. I just won a mix shootout on a couple of tunes that the artist had three other guys mix. He commented on how much he liked what I did on the vocal. It was the Chandler plug-in, of course. I love the tone and control, especially the limiter." - Dave McNair (Producer)

"These plug-ins are really gorgeous... I love them. Sounds like a great outboard compressor. Rare for a plug-in to speak like that." - Greg Wells (Rufus Wainwright, Pink, Natasha Bedingfield)

"You want vibe, you got vibe. You want smash, you got smash. You want crush, you got crush. You want smooth Beatles-like in your face compression. You got that, too. In a plug-in to get all this is unheard of. The only thing better, is the real deal hardware, which I highly recommend, too." - Ross Hogarth (Ziggy Marley, Keb Mo, John Fogerty)

"I finally got to try out the plug-in today and holy shit!!!! This is the most insane compressor plug-in that I've ever played with. I really like the analog unit, but the plug-in is equally cool in a slighty different way. It really blew me away. I tried it on a mono room track and almost had to nix my stereo room sound; It took a lot of re-thinking to get them to compete with it." - John Travis (Social Distortion, Wilco, No Doubt, Starlite Desperation)

"I just got the new EMI compressor plug in and first used it on a pair of Brain Wilson sessions. We compressed the piano with the EMI and got that great pumped up sound from the 60's. On my next session with a four piece rock band I used the EMI on the room mics for the drumkit and got a great compressed sound, just the way I like it." - Mark Linett (Brian Wilson "Presents Smile", The Red Hot Chili Peppers "Stadium Arcadium" )

"I can't ever recall testing a plug-in compressor that can match the TG12413 for sheer punchiness. In compressor mode, it can pump like a nodding donkey in an oil field, but I found I used it more in limiter mode, where the snappier time constants seemed to work for almost everything." - Sam Inglis, Sound on Sound.

Chandler Limited TG12413 Zener Limiter
The EMI TG12413 Zener Limiter is the ultimate TG Limiter issued in celebration of the 75th birthday of Abbey Road Studios. The Zener Limiter was conceived by Chandler Limited designer Wade Goeke and is based on the vintage EMI circuits used to record The Beatles and Pink Floyd. This newest EMI Limiter continues the tradition of EMI Limiters started in 1956 with the RS114 tube limiter, and continued with the RS168 Zener Limiter in 1966, part of the TG12345 console channel in 1968 and TG12413 in 1974. The newest version borrows from the RS168 Zener Limiter and TG12345 console strip to make a new fully featured and flexible unit for modern use. It is interesting to note that the TG Limiter was originally designed to replace both the Fairchild 660 (Limit Mode) and the Altec 436/RS124 (Comp 1 Mode)

The main reason for Zener Limiter reissue was to add features and flexibility to the powerful and vintage sounding TG limiter circuits. To that end Wade has added many new controls including switch able input impedance for hard of soft driving of the unit, 11 position attack, 21 position release, side chain filtering, and Comp1, Comp2, and Limit settings.

A simple Limiter from the rich past of EMI and Abbey Road has now come full circle into a modern powerhouse suitable for recording, mixing, and mastering. The rest is NEW Chandler Limited/EMI/Abbey Road history.... TG12413 Zener Limiter "Just plugged in my new Zener compressor AND HOLY F@*K........HOOOOOLY FFFFFFFFFF@*K. 'Nuff said. - Greg Wells, producer, Deftones, Mika, Pink, Rufus Wainwright
Chandler Limited Germanium Compressor
The Germanium series continues with the GERMANIUM Compressor. The GERM Comp starts with the same all class A amp found in the GERM Pre and Tone Control and is transformer balanced in and out. The Compression circuit uses a FET gain reduction element but with the tricks and flexibilty of all the GERM units. Some of the most notable additions include a WET/DRY mix (for submixing tracks within the comp), COMP CURVE (which selects the knee using various diode combinations), CLEAN/DIRTY COMP, and SIDECHAIN FILTER. Many of the GERM Comp parameters have been purposely set by studio use and listening, not by over analysing them with test gear. The result is a musical powerhouse for ready for tracking, mixing, and mastering. "Just a quick message to let you know that I'm so happy with my pair of Germ Comps. It's the fattest and most versatile compressor I've ever used.... amazing!! Thanks again." -Mako, France

"In my 30 years of engineering I have never encountered a compressor that can repair and enhance any sound thrown it's way!! Between that unit and the "tone control" you have some of the most valuable and most used tools in my racks [no bullshit]..." -Fletcher

"This has to be the fattest, squeeziest, most analog, in your face, kick ass compressor I've heard." -Michael Wagener

"This is one of the most exciting recording tools I've used in many years. The two Germ Curves and the Mix control are especially noteworthy." -Michael James

"I have played with these quite a bit. WOW! The most flexible compressor I have ever used....hands down. -KROK, Gearslutz GERMANIUM Compressor All Germanium units require and function on the PSU-1, Chandler Limited power supply.
Chandler Limited Curve Bender
The EMI TG12345 Curve Bender is the ultimate TG equalizer issued in celebration of the 75th birthday of Abbey Road Studios. The Curve Bender was conceived by Chandler Limited designer Wade Goeke and Abbey Road senior engineer Peter Cobbin and is based on the vintage EMI TG12345 desk used to record The Beatles and Pink Floyd. This newest EMI equalizer continues the tradition of EMI eqs started in 1951 with the RS56, affectionately entitled the Curve bender by EMI designers and continued with the TG12345 in 1968, and TG12412 in 1974. The newest version takes the simple but beautiful sounding TG12345 equalizer and realizes it in a fully featured and rethought package for today's use.

During his mixing of numerous Beatles related projects including, Anthology, Yellow Submarine, and Imagine, Peter Cobbin thought of having a fully featured and ultimately flexible version of the original desk eq units. After Wade presented him with a working version of the famed console eq Pete realized his time had come and set Wade to making his unit. Peter asked for four bands and filters based on the slopes of the original desk but with overlapping and expanded choices. Wade turned the 9 selections on the vintage version into 51 eq points plus a multiply switch that increases the boost/cut to 15db (as well as sharpening the Q), filters, and bell/shelf selections on the high and low bands.

A simple equalizer from the rich past of EMI and Abbey Road has now come full circle into a modern powerhouse suitable for recording, mixing, and mastering. The rest is NEW Chandler Limited/EMI/Abbey Road history... Curve Bender available with 1/2 dB steps. TG12345 Curve Bender "I predict in 2007 the Curve Bender will be the secret weapon every f*@!ing mastering engineer has been looking for...It has to be the best low end I've ever heard out of an EQ. It has attitude for days...you'd think it was born in NYC." - Michael Brauer All TG units require and function on the PSU-1, Chandler Limited power supply. EMI TG12412/TG12414 MASTERING EQ BUNDLE (TDM)
The EMI TG12412 was first introduced to the recording world around 1972 when Abbey Road installed the first TG12410 Transfer (or mastering) Desks. This equalizer is deeply rooted in the tradition of EMI eqs started in 1954 with the RS56, and continued with the TG12345 in 1969, and finally the TG12412 in 1972.

The eq has 20 selections on the four bands as well as five shapes per band. Shelf low, blunt, medium, and sharp bell curves, and shelf high. One of the interesting and highly prized uses of the TG12412 is the shelf high and shelf low settings. On each band you can choose to shelf up or down on any frequency and this is an often used trick of Abbey Road mastering engineers through the years. Another interesting feature is that all eq points are based on the note C and are spaced in half and third octaves based on that. It is thought that this is part of the totally musical sound of the equalizer. # The eq selection in detail- Section 1- 32, 45, 65, 91, 128 Hz. +/10db boost or cut in 1db steps. # Section 2- 181, 256, 362, 512, 724 Hz. +/-10db boost or cut in 1db steps. # Section 3- 1.02, 1.45, 2.05, 2.6, 3.25 kHz. +/-10boost or cut in 1db steps. # Section 4- 4.1, 5.8, 8.1, 11, 16 kHz. +/-10 boost or cut in 1db steps. The EMI TG12414, was first introduced to the recording world around 1972 when Abbey Road installed the first TG12410 Transfer (or mastering) Desks. I love this plug-in... is kind of like a "super Pultec" with enough points and shapes so that you can use it as a corrective EQ without losing the flavor of limited options... it's just right." - Thom Monahan
